Dear IACM Conference Participants,
You are cordially invited to participate in a ½ day post-IACM Meeting on Dynamical Systems Theory and Conflict. The objective for the meeting is to stimulate intellectual and practical work on understanding and addressing social conflict from the perspective of dynamical systems theory. This is a scientific paradigm that is rich in concepts, principles and methods that have shown great promise for understanding complex phenomena of all types (from planetary systems to traffic patterns and cellular behavior), and is only beginning to be mined for work on social conflict. The meeting will take place in Budapest at the IACM annual conference site, on July, 4th, 2007 from 2:00pm. until approximately 6:00pm. We also plan to gather for dinner after the meeting. There is no fee to attend, but we do request that you register ahead of time.
The meeting will include the following sessions:
- A brief introduction and overview of current work in applying dynamical systems theory to understanding and addressing social conflict.
- A presentation and discussion of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the dynamical-systems approach, which will address common misconceptions and clarifications of the approach.
- A presentation overview of dynamical-systems methodologies for conducting research on social conflict. This will be followed by small-group work on designing dynamical research projects.
If you plan to attend the post-IACM conference, please send a confirmation of your participation to Naira Musallam at nm2140@columbia.edu .
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
The organizing team:
