Organizational scholars are increasingly interested in community engagement and in making their work relevant for those outside academia. Several challenges exist, however--including managing conflicting demands on time, negotiating boundaries between communities, and understanding the constant changes organizations experience. "Engaging Theory: Transforming Organizations" seeks to address these challenges by providing an intimate, stimulating environment for organizational scholars and practitioners to join forces, work collaboratively, and explore ideas and practices together.

Held in scenic Aspen, Colorado the setting provides a perfect venue for addressing many of today's crucial organizational questions and exploring how a range of academic disciplines can contribute in meaningful ways to producing more vibrant and responsive workplaces and how, in turn, the engagement of scholars and practitioners in organizational contexts can enrich and deepen theory and scholarship.

Call For Posters:

Toward that end, conference organizers invite proposals for poster presentations highlighting innovative theoretical or practical advances in engaged organizational scholarship. In keeping with the spirit of engagement, selected Posters will be displayed throughout the conference and the conference agenda will both feature break-out times for participants to review and discuss poster contents with their creators, and dedicated times for conference participants to collectively explore the implications and impact of the material presented, thus serving as a springboard for further discussion and engagement. This conference typically draws many high-profile scholars in organizational communication, and so affords an excellent opportunity to workshop new and innovative approaches to organizational scholarship with some of the best minds in the field.

To submit a poster for consideration, please include a brief abstract of the concept or practice(s) your poster will address, as well as an overview/outline of the poster itself. Submissions should not exceed two pages in length and will, preferably, be submitted electronically in MS Word format, by March 1st, 2005 to Jaime McMullen Garcia at jaime.garcia@cufund.colorado.edu. Please include "Engaging Theory Poster Proposal" in the subject line for ease of sorting. Additional information about this year's conference is available at http://comm.colorado.edu/given/. Questions may be directed to Jennifer.Simpson@Colorado.edu.
