Workshop: Strategies for Teaching International Negotiations

Duke University, October 14-17, 2004

Posted: 27 September 2004

Designed for faculty from diverse fields who would like to incorporate international business negotiation into their pedagogy, this faculty development workshop has a 6-year history of success. This year's workshop will focus on experiential teaching methods and materials for 1-on-1, interteam, and multiparty negotiations.

Approaches include short role-plays, complex behavioral simulations, Internet based negotiation systems, and interactive cross-cultural computer modules. Faculty attending the workshop will participate in these exercises as well as discuss their use in teaching.

Additional special features for attendees include the opportunity to assess their own cultural communication styles using an exciting new on-line resource, InterCultural Edge,® and participation in an international role-play negotiation simulation designed by Duke CIBER. Sunday morning will be devoted to optional one-on-one conferences with the individual instructors.

The registration fee is $1,400, which includes 3 nights at the Millennium Hotel Durham, most meals, transportation between the airport, hotel and the Fuqua School of Business, and all workshop materials.

A limited number of $500 scholarships will be available to faculty from minority and underfunded colleges and universities. Please contact the Duke University CIBER for more information.
